SWACCH BHARAT ABHIYAN (Cleanliness Drive 2.0)

🎯 PROJECT AIM

The drive aimed to enhance community involvement in maintaining a clean and hygienic environment. It focused on raising awareness about cleanliness, promoting public health, and fostering a strong sense of civic responsibility among residents and participants.

📝 PROJECT SUMMARY

The second edition of our Cleanliness Drive was held at Maidan, Kolkata, one of the city’s most visited and iconic locations. The initiative was aligned with the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, to reinforce our commitment to environmental cleanliness and social responsibility.

💡 Highlights:

  • Objective: Promote environmental consciousness and civic awareness.
  • Volunteer Force: 9 interns from St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata actively participated.
  • Kick-off Time: Volunteers reported by 11:00 A.M. at Maidan Metro Station Gate No. 1. The drive began at 11:45 A.M.
  • Impact: Approximately 30 kg of waste was collected and disposed of.
  • Cultural Impact: Besides physical cleaning, the project fostered a collective culture of cleanliness and public accountability.
  • Success Factor: The community spirit and team effort contributed to a visible improvement in the cleanliness of the area.

⚠️ Challenges:

  • Lack of Planning: Promotional strategies were not developed, leading to zero digital and public outreach.
  • Leadership Gap: Neither of the project heads was present during the event.
  • On-Ground Oversight: Senior council member Mr. Priyoum Dhar once again took over as on-ground coordinator, guiding the interns and ensuring the drive ran smoothly.

🏁 CONCLUSION

Despite minimal planning and lack of visibility, the Cleanliness Drive 2.0 was successfully executed thanks to the commitment of interns from St. Xavier’s University and the steady leadership of Mr. Priyoum Dhar. The project left a visible impact on the local environment and reaffirmed the foundation’s role in urban sanitation efforts.

However, leadership gaps and digital silence significantly diminished the project’s external impact. These issues must be addressed before future drives to ensure full success both on-ground and online.
